IMI Hosts Vaccination Seminar in the New Floor

More Workshops and Seminars to Come

IMI hosted “Vaccination — Yes or No?”, the first seminar since the renovation of the 17/F, on the evening of 11 January. The free seminar featured presentations by IMI Founding Director Graeme Bradshaw and Dr Barry Decker of the Chiropractic Center. Over 30 people attended the event.

See below for a video highlight of the seminar.

All parents want the best for their children, and vaccination, in the recent years, has become a heated debate. Studies have shown that by delaying some vaccinations, the risks of asthma and other allergies in children are drastically reduced.

“Today’s parents have a lot more information available to them to make informed choices about health care, to weight up the risks and to explore options,” said Dr Decker.

Graeme Bradshaw believes that parents could safely delay DPT and Polio, Tetanus vaccinations, as incidence rates of all these are a mere 5 cases per year in Hong Kong. The risk of exposure to these infections is so minimal that delaying any vaccination for them until the child’s immunity is more mature is a sensible approach. “Just a two month delay benefits the child by reducing incidence of asthma up to 60% and of allergic rhinitis, dust allergy, hay fever by 40%, according to studies.”

Graeme weighted the benefits and health risks of the conventional vaccination program. He provided two other options for concerning parents.

In a Selective/Integrated Program, parents can be selective on vaccinations or elect a delayed schedule, under the supervision of a health care practitioner. Homeopathic nosodes could be given to the baby before or after the shots to reduce the chances of bad reactions, as well as improving immunity to reduce the risks of contracting a disease and the effects of the vaccine.

In an Alternative Program, parents can decide not to give the baby any vaccination and instead use Homeopathic prophylaxis. The little evidence there is on this approach is very promising, with over 90% protection from the infections being achieved.

Graeme suggested parents to make informed choices by getting the baby tested for the risk of various diseases, especially prior to the controversial MMR vaccine. In all cases, providing immunity support to their baby is wise. Vitamin A, C, D and Zinc are all recommended starting just prior to and for 3 weeks after the vaccine is given.

After the presentations, the two speakers stayed on to answer many questions from the attendants.

Our new presentation space on the 17/F worked very well for the 35 people present. We received many positive comments.

“We created this new space with holistic education in mind.” said Carole Bradshaw, co-founder of the new IMI. “IMI will be able to offer a broader range for services during the day and educational programs, workshops, meditation in the evening and weekend. It’s our hope that we can attract inspiring speakers and leaders in the health, well-being and spirituality arena to offer our clients and the people of Hong Kong real opportunities for personal growth and evolution. The venue is open for other holistic health related speakers to hire out too.”

To continue the effort, IMI will offer a workshop and 3 free seminars in the month of February. Those interested can register by calling 2523 7121, or email health@imi.com.hk.
