Ilissa Howard is a US trained psychotherapist and licensed Social Worker who strongly believes in people’s capacity to grow and change. She partners with clients to help them combine their inner strength with effective coping mechanisms to lead fulfilling lives.

Taking a modern and solution-focused approach, Ilissa draws primarily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), utilizing motivational interviewing techniques where appropriate, and also incorporating elements of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Narrative Therapy.

Ilissa earned her Master of Clinical Social Work at Columbia University in New York City. In addition to mainstream interventions, she was fortunate enough to study Complicated Grief Therapy (CGT) with the founder of the modality. CGT is a short-term therapy that has the strongest evidence base of any grief treatment in the world. She also studied Motivational Interviewing (MI) with a founder of the technique. MI is a directive, client-centered approach for moving past ambivalence and eliciting behavioral change. Ilissa has also completed Levels I and II of the Gottman Method, a couple’s therapy method that relies on research-based interventions.

Having previously worked in Marketing for corporates for over 20 years, Ilissa is also adept at supporting clients who face work related stress and mental health challenges in the workplace.

A Hong Kong resident for over 12 years, Ilissa is a mother of two young children. Personal experiences drove her to retrain as a psychotherapist in the hope of positively impacting the lives of others. Having learned and grown from her own experiences, she is committed to help clients face and overcome their challenges.
