Whitney Yeung is a fully registered counselling psychologist with the Hong Kong Psychological Society.
She has special interest in providing psychotherapy for parents, especially for those who are preparing for parenthood, or recently became new parents. Whitney is also trained in play therapy, offering this to children as a way to explore their emotions.

Being a mother herself, Whitney has intimate experience with the transition from woman, to mother. She knows that new mothers face challenges on many levels: from biological, to mental and emotional.

Becoming a mother can stir up suppressed early memories, which can bring up intense emotions that were previously hidden. Despite this, Whitney believes that this transition can provide a fruitful space for women to review their lives and identity as they enter a new phase of life.

Looking after a infant can be emotionally challenging for parents. Whitney is a certified Newborn Behavioural Observation (NBO) practitioner and can help parents navigate this stage with more confidence, helping them build relationships. NBO is a tool which aims to understand the communication behind your baby’s challenging behaviours, supporting parents in understanding the uniqueness of their baby.

Becoming a mother can often be an isolating and stressful experience. As Whitney offers sessions via Zoom, this provides new mothers with the ease of carrying out sessions in their own home, while remaining close with their baby.

Whitney offers psychotherapy to adults of all ages. She uses the lens of relationship styles to understand people at depth. She knows our pain often stems from early bonds with significant people in our lives. Healthy relationships offer people a safe and supportive space so they can make sense of their own stories, including past events, early relationships and how they are playing out in the present. By walking alongside each individual, she fosters their courage and capacity to look at the present, bring new awareness and shift patterns to create meaningful change. Whitney draws on person-centred, psychodynamic, and strength-based approaches to guide her work.

She is also skilled in offering support for life events and transitions, from leaving an intimate relationship, to moving out of your parents’ home, starting a new career or getting married. She knows that changes are natural, but often do not come easy. They may be accompanied by stress, ruminating thoughts or feeling numb.

Whitney feels privileged to have worked with clients from diverse ethnic backgrounds and nationalities, including clients presenting with various issues ranging from trauma, abuse, struggles in intimate relationships and workplace/school performance.

Whitney graduated with a Master of Social Sciences in Counselling Psychology and a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Counselling and Psychology in Hong Kong Shue Yan University. She is always looking to expand her knowledge and receives professional trainings and supervision on a regular basis. Personally, she also enjoys taking time to stay with her family and cats. Whenever she can, she spends time in reading, practicing yoga and mindfulness with singing bowls.
