The 10th of December marks Human Rights Day and this year’s theme is Recover Better – Stand Up for Human Rights. As Hong Kong navigates its fourth COVID-19 wave in these cold winter months, its vulnerable communities are struggling more than ever to get by. Worryingly, the charities that work so hard to support them are struggling, too. They’re seeing an increase in demand, but they’re low on funds and resources.

Today, we’re reaching out to you to ask that we stand up for human rights, together. In doing so, our city can recover better. The charities we have chosen to support this year all provide essential help for those whose already difficult circumstances have been made even more challenging as a result of the COVID crisis. From 10th until 24th December 2020, donate using the links below and we’ll match dollar for dollar up to HKD $15,000.

Christian Action

Christian Action’s mission is to serve those who are disadvantaged, marginalised, displaced or abandoned throughout Hong Kong and Qinghai. Their programmes support refugees, underprivileged families and children, ethnic minorities, migrant domestic workers and young students living in poverty.

Impact HK

Impact HK is an NGO committed to supporting the homeless in Hong Kong with friendship, food, shelter, education, employment opportunities, holistic health support and housing. In addition to the homeless, street cleaners and underprivileged seniors also turn to Impact HK for their free meal service during the pandemic.

VIVA – Together for children

VIVA’s mission is to release children from poverty and abuse worldwide. In Hong Kong, the charity provides child protection training and programmes to multiple organisations. In Asia some of the most vulnerable are children at severe risk of trafficking. VIVA works with these children and their families to ensure traffickers walk away empty-handed and children can live to their full potential. Educating whole communities changes the generational poverty trap and protects those at risk from the most terrible crimes. Please add code IMI2020 when donating.
